For 4 pips gained in the race there are 12 more hitting numbers which cost 19 pips. So on average the race looks to be worse after the 31 play. The slotted 6 point might be made but some fly shots on the next sequence are lost (especially after a hit). Not seeing at all how it is obviously less likely to be TG.

"In practice I tend to cash these positions early just because there aren't that many gammons to be had, and it's more annoying to me to get dinged for a series of missed cashes (or even to lose the game) than to get dinged once for cashing when too good"

Also annoying is eventually just getting the cash or worst and realizing you lost significant time on cube decisions.
