I should add that 8/5*,13/11 was my OTB choice. I didnt really consider my opponents strength, because that just leads to self propagating poor decisions, which have the added side effect of training me to play worse. So, I try and play these straight, unless theres an obvious opportunity to capitalize on my strength.

The hitting part I felt was necessary - the race is even, and my position doesnt solidify quickly enough (turn blots into points). Yes, the one blot play is tidy, but that blot gets blown away far too often, swinging 20 pips out of the race, and staggering nearly mutual positions in favor of my opponent. Once the hit is in, then the 2 becomes pretty clear for me - be productive. So, 13/11 for that. My hope is that I will get away with everything and create a 3pt prime next roll, failing that (much more likely), I want to make my subsequent rolls be more constructive, and generate assets.

Of course, its also early, and I am more inclined versus most players to get into obscene hitting battles.
