Blue to play 41

GnuBg, both in Grandmaster mode and in a trucated rollout, played this as E (Each) = bar/21, 6/5. Moving 6/5 preserves a playable 4. 64 and 54 will be used to launch a rear checker into the outfield. Meanwhile, 43, 42, and 41 can all be played without killing a checker. The only 4 that hurts is 44.

In the game where this came up, I followed the Tutor’s advice, and was able to make my 3pt when my next roll was 42. I ended up winning a long and interesting backgame. Now I have a long rollout underway in XG.

What do you think will happen?

Mike
