I'm with you, Bob. I wonder if people are just using the term "reference position" for any borderline decision. Are they actually memorizing them? There are very few positions that I try to memorize thoroughly and I find that I have to review them multiple times before they really sink in.

There is no way I would commit this specific position to memory. The most I would try to remember from this position is this: It's slightly worse than the standard 65/35 breakdown for a 66B position, presumably because of Black's 5pt. That should be a pretty good guide to the cube action for most scores.
