OT – Best Adblocker?

I have Firefox v. 30.0. In preparation for the upcoming NOVI streams, I want to install an adblocker. Two candidates appear to be:

AdBlock

AdBlock Home Page
AdBlock at Wikipedia

AdBlock Plus

AdBlock Plus Home Page
AdBlock Plus at Wikipedia

Based on Wikipedia entries, the second seems to be the newer. Unfortunately, it has been modified to allow "acceptable" ads! According the to the Mozilla download page, however, this feature can be disabled. In addition to this pair, there may be other, better blockers.

At present, the only blocks I have are due to entries the Windows hosts file. It redirects certain DNS addresses to the IP loopback address 127.0.0.1. The list I am using was downloaded from the web site for the Backgammon World Championships at Monte Carlo a few years ago. It contains a notation that (at least some of it) was generated by "WinHelp2002." Should I be updating this file as well?

Any help you can offer is much appreciated.
