In practice you will roll immediately of course, and so would I.

But it is interesting to try to put numbers on it - number of games in which you'd get hit, number of losses, number of gammon wins, and then compare against the rollout statistics of GNU, which gives you the actual numbers of the same in the rollout (one of the good and underused features of GNU).

I got the number of gammons about right, overestimated how often we'd get hit by a bit, and underestimate how often we'd lose (by a lot). Apparently I don't have a good mental picture of the position on the board when we get hit, and how many checkers we may have off by then.
