He did many things to deserve the new name, but here is just a few things:

1. He woke us up every morning (7 of us shared an Air B&B) and opened up beers for everyone and started every day buzzed. His strategy obviously worked as we all got knocked out of the tournament fairly early while he took second place;

2. He kept me and Tuvi up until the middle of the night in a hot area of Tokyo called Ropongi and almost got us into all kinds of trouble I don't care to talk about.

3. And most of all, we played chouette for hours on end and he was a real kick!

The "Ugly 7" are going to have a reunion in LA in early December and we're planning a morning breakfast with beer at Fatboy's house then a chouette into the night.

This guy is a real kick, and I am proud to say, a hell of a player who gives me and Stick a lot of credit as his teachers. Mick is a great guy and a lot of fun, but I watched a lot of his matches, including his semis and his finals, and he is very intense and a fierce competitor over the board.

One thing was very funny. The night before we hooked up with Mick, my son, Dan and I, went to an African Restaurant in Akasaka, and I at Kangaroo. (I told the guy I didn't know there were kangaroos in Africa, and he said the zoos are full of them.) When I told Mike I ate kangaroo he was mortified and said, "You ate Joey!" I told him I had little choice because they were out of Kuala Bear.

(Kangaroo tasted more or less like chicken.)
