This is a good one!
Normally, in a mutual holding game, if you're ahead in the race and you've reached the point where the alternative to breaking anchor is to rip up your board and leave a shot anyway, then you should break anchor. But if your opponent's attacking chances are just too strong then you might have to sit tight.
Here, if we don't break anchor, then we must play 8/2 along with either 6/1 or 8/3. Both are ugly; I think I prefer 6/1 leaving fewer shots and one fewer blot, but I'm not sure.
If we break anchor, I see several candidates. We can run all the way with 21/10; we can jump both checkers out with 21/16 21/15; or we can jump out and play off the 8pt with 21/15 8/3 or 21/16 8/2. All of these leave a tremendous number of shots since White will surely hit inside her board if the roll allows it. The best option looks to me like 21/16 21/15, since it prevents White from pointing on us and keeps the double-hitting numbers down. However, it still lets White hit with any 4 or 5, which is 26 hitting rolls. I would redouble as White.
This makes me want to pay later by holding the anchor, but we also have to consider what's going to happen on our next roll. If we hold our anchor, is the situation likely to improve next time assuming we're missed? It might. White's outfield blot and her spares on the 5pt/6pt/7pt are causing us trouble now, and next turn White has to either move them or break anchor, and that will probably allow us to break anchor more safely.
Not sure but I would pay later.
