The most baffling part was what XG used to show for the live doubling point, which was equal to neither the dead cube double point nor the live cube cashpoint. For example: At the 7-away, 7-away score, before the fix, the dead double point was 50%, the live double point was 75.78%, and the live cash point was 79.75%.

Now it's not baffling at all...in fact I think it makes it more clear what exactly is the assumption behind the 'live cube' model. If the equity in a backgammon game evolves continuously (i.e. no discrete jumps), the optimally timed double will always happen at the opponent's point of indifference...so the live double point equals the live cash point.

Regarding your comment about the average user: My advice is that they should ignore the live double point entirely...it does not help to understand a missed cube blunder.

Instead, the user should focus on the opponent's live cube takepoint, and review the dice distribution or temperature map to understand the market loss in the position.
