Checker Play Problem

I am not quite sure why you posted this one, as it seems obvious to make the 5-point. Is there a salt story looming?
Make the 5-point. I would not worry much, if at all about the ace shot, if your opponent does not roll a 6 you are on great shape, even if he rolls a 1. On 6 of his 6's you will have 7 or 8 immediate returns and two tons of future shot equity. If you play 13-10, 8-7, you give 4 fewer 'jokers', but you have a much, much weaker position the 70% of the time he does not roll a 4. Five of his 4's leap and leave 0 to 4 returns and less future shot equity, while 2 others leap and leave 12 shots.
Another reason to make the 5-points is to avoid the difficulty of trying to make the 5-point later, while trying to escape his mini-blockade. When you have competing themes, numbers can often play awkwardly. If you make the 5-point now, your future rolls should play more smoothly.
