In Response To: Nice tournament! But here's a way to make it better! (neilkaz)

If you do not want to use progressive seeding in the Last Chance, this is the next-best option.

I once lost in the 1st round of a Main flight on a Friday. That sent me into round 1 of the progressive Consolation on Saturday morning. I then worked all the way through the consolation only to lose in the last match. As this was a "Fighters Bracket" tournament, if I had won, I would have entered the playoff bracket. I had a very long Saturday.

Instead, my loss put me into a Last Chance that used fresh seeding. I had to be available for a 9:00 a.m. (or was it 9:30 a.m.?) start on Sunday. Pumped up from my long day, I ended up getting only 4 hours sleep. When I arrived at the tournament hall Sunday, I learned I had won a first round bye. That was little help, however, because I had already been deprived of the extra hour of sleep I would have had if progressive seeding had been used in the Last Chance.

My perspective on this is somewhat skewed. That's because I do not enjoy playing backgammon for 12 hours a day, and then repeating the process for three days straight. I would much rather play for 6-8 hours a day on three consecutive days.

I wish there were a path through a tournament--perhaps using three side events--that guaranteed a player need be present for a maximum of 8 hours per day. If that were the case, I would gladly skip the Main event.
