The key point is that you have a bunch of random points with random spares on it against a nice and compact prime with spares, but that you have a board advantage and blots to shoot at. So you MUST hit somewhere.

Then for the hit on the ace: first you'd prefer to use the spare on the 2 to hit loose on the ace (look at what happens in the match, you have the ace, but with a dead checker on the 2), second you'd much prefer to hit on the 5 and make it, because this will help to get some blocking power in place, and also would help to make sure that our blots will be available to harass later.
