Running off acepoint anchor

If I have a 24point anchor, and my opponent has 7 or fewer men on his deucepoint to bearoff, is it ever right to NOT run a man off my acepoint ? I ask because I was recently rudely criticised for saying that I couldn't think of an example where it would be correct to stay. (the citiciser said that a Giant (who was one of my backers for the UK Open) did stay on the acepoint in at least one example, which I found hard to believe.
