Alice Topping

After last year's World Championship there were several posts regarding previous female World Champions and whether Alice L. Topping had won the event in 1969. Wikipedia (which still needs to be updated re the invention of doubling) lists her as a World Champ[ion.

I spent some time trying to track her down (it is rumoured she is still alive) but without success. Googling her this morning I came across this article in the Gammon Press:

which would seem to indicate that no WC was held in 1969. If that is the case we are back to just four lady World Champions.
