Backgammon in 1930's media

Project Arclight is a new research tool for people interested in Media History. You can plug in any expression and it'll give you a handy chart of how frequently the term appears in about 2 million pages of periodicals and journals related to media. It's interesting to plug in "Backgammon" and see how the references explore in 1930/1931 and then subside again by 1950. (The periodicals appear to only reach into the late 60's).

You can click on the data points to view the backgammon excerpts and click through to ones to see the entire scanned pages. Usually it's passing references in 'gossip' columns to various film stars being 'addicted' to the game -- but there's also a fun picture of the Marx Brother holding a board between them in a train station. (Harpo was apparently mad for the game):
