In Response To: Dancing x times on a y point board? Excel help? (Casper Van der Tak)

Many thanks for the tip and your advice Casper.

As a note, I was once told by a maths teacher at my local club that you had to add the individual probabilities together - he said the dice have no memory. I thought this was fishy and thought multiplication would be involved as the resulting numbers felt 'too small'. Anyway, I'm now trying to understand this area better.

Where I got stuck in Excel was trying to convert the unwieldy decimals into simpler fractions. i.e. the probability of dancing 3 times on a 2 point board is 0.0000018817 . But of course it is more memorable and useful for me expressed as "1 in 729".

In maths, I believe when the numerator is 1, this is known as a unit fraction (1/x).

What I would like is a way in Excel to convert these small and tiny decimal probability values to be expressed as (the closest possible, doesn't have to be exact) unit fraction.

Here is the latest screenshot..

And here is the latest Excel sheet if anybody can try the next step..

Thanks again!
