Phil, I agree with you that this sort of decision is more subtle than some people are making it sound.

I see two factors that swing the balance towards 6/3 5/3. The first is that it's DMP. 6/3 4/2 is the sort of play that (usually) wins more gammons, but that is irrelevant here.

The second is that White has good timing and a killer offensive position. That means that long-term safety comes into play. I don't have XG on me at the moment but a quick check with GNU suggests that in the position below, 6/3 4/2 narrowly rolls out on top.

Maybe Nack will come up with some more helpful variants.
