I believe Neil Robins' answer covers most of it (e.g., against 31, it is desirable to have 5s that hit back on the 18pt), though there is a lot to learn in doing your own study.

Comparing 51S-42P-62 to 51S-31P-62, a chunk of equity can also be explained in that S (Split, 24/18 13/11) is punished more harshly by 11. Interesting (though less impactful) is that in comparing 51S-42P-62 to the other two positions, 24/16 (the only legal running play against 42) is punished less harshly by 22.
