If we play safe now, we might well be forced to run next turn while facing a 5-point board and no blot and with a weaker board of our own. In the meantime we would have wasted a bunch of pips. Now we are facing a 4 point board with two blots, so hitting numbers like 51, 42 and 62 have lost a lot of their power.
