Sports Illustrated Report of the First International BG Tournament in May 1964

In Response To: Sports Illustrated Report of the First International BG Tournament in May 1964 (Dorn Bishop)

It is of historical significance because:

(1) It is to my knowledge the first media report on modern backgammon since the early 1930s

(2) This tournament was the blueprint model for all subsequent tournaments

(3) It provides a picture of the social scene which prevailed until the wave of nerdy players led by Magriel, Senkiewicz, etc, displaced the sauve jet set players, in the late 70s and 90s.

(4) It shows how pivotal key players/organisers like Prince Alexis Obolensky were in shaping the rich backgammon landscape we still inhabit today.
