Phil: One thing Frank did not mention is that if you have two players who are exactly equal in skill, luck is the determining factor 100 percent of the time. And of course, it is fair to say that the closer in skill the more luck becomes a factor. But not pointing this out does not detract from the major point of the article.

Frank: It is the parity of the participants that fools our perception. In a sense, this is no different than any other game or sport of skill. When the competition is close or evenly matched, extraneous factors or luck will likely make the difference.

Seems like he at least mentioned it to me.

When you and so far Florin have touched on the backgammon v. poker skill v. luck scenario both of you seem to think of poker as no limit hold 'em. While it is the most popular game it is far, far removed from being dominant like backgammon is to Nackgammon or whatever variant you'd like to use. It's not fair to poker to compare only NLHE to backgammon.
