Bg variant - Prop bet

Here is a rather interesting bg variant I have been playing as a prop bet on both sides in Copenaghen.

Starting position is the same as standard backgammon. White is on roll and can choose any two dice he wants barring doubles for the entire game. Black rolls only a die and play it as a double (i.e. 4 times). And so on. White always picks his dice barring doubles, and black always rolls and moves 4 times.

Gammons and backgammons counts.

Who is the favorite? What are some obvious strategies? Has this variant been suggested before?
