I think, I do get it.

The reason for my confusion was that while reading through David Montgomery's article, I got the feeling, that no matter what the luck estimates are, it is working. For example, in the first table, last column in that article we see the numbers +50% and -10% assigned to the events double and no-double, respectively. There is no word about 1/6*50-5/6*10=0. Later on, under Why Bad Evaluations Don't Introduce Bias?, it is still not too clear why the average luck is equal to zero. It is maybe implied, that it should be equal to zero.
