symmetric racing positions with three checkers left

Six years ago I studied all of the symmetric three checker bear off positions. The following is a good rule of thumb for money play : Person on roll doubles. 1) Take if the pip count is greater than or equal to 12 2) Drop otherwise.
There are three and only three exceptions to this rule of thumb: a) a 12 pip pass (6,5,1)...person on roll wins 77% of the time, but cube ownership vig is minimal..b) an 11 pip take (5,3,3) 75.5% c) a 10 pip take (6,2,2) 76.7%.
