USBGF Acquires the American Backgammon Tour
The U.S. Backgammon Federation (USBGF) is pleased to announce the acquisition of the American Backgammon Tour (ABT) from founder Bill Davis effective January 1, 2017.
The ABT - founded, organized, and managed by Bill Davis - has been an American backgammon institution since 1993. The USBGF is honored to be entrusted with the continuing distinction of the ABT and sustaining its historical legacy and significance to the game.
As in other mind sports and games, the USBGF believes it is critical to our mission -- " … advancing the awareness, participation, education and enjoyment of the skill-based game of backgammon." - that a national organization takes the lead in increasing visibility, attracting new players, and enhancing the tournament experience. The addition of the ABT to the USBGF complement of resources and activities is an important development. The acquisition allows us to offer a richer integrated array of information, resources, and activities for all backgammon players.
The USBGF looks forward to working with our members, the ABT tournament directors, and all players to continue and to enhance this significant component of the game. We expect 2017 to be a transition year with little change for the ABT. Bill Davis will work with the USBGF to continue providing his ABT Facebook posts of positions, information, humor, and insight. Moving forward, with input from players and directors, we will continue ABT enhancements to provide more services and assistance to directors and players - including director resources, scheduling, tournament certification, and recruitment for tournaments in new cities. We can better attract new directors by sharing our common experiences, data, and resources to make their jobs easier.
The 2016 ABT winners will be recognized with the presentation of their awards at the USBGF Awards Dinner at the 2017 Texas Backgammon Championships in San Antonio on February 3. Various USBGF Awards and the new American Backgammon Hall of Fame inductions will also be announced at that time.
Regards and best wishes,
Bill Riles President and Executive Director U.S. Backgammon Federation
