learning from mistakes?

I am a serious player that seems to have plateaued lately and I can't seem to get better. I don't take lessons but I read and follow this forum as well as Kit's. When playing with Snowie I sometimes can't seem to figure out why my mistakes are labelled as such. I need advice on how to learn from my mistakes, but more importantly, figure out what category my mistakes fall in. I know there are many world class players here and at Kit's, so I am asking for advice on what you all do in order to improve. Any feedback is highly appreciated!
