Why does XG get the simplest basics wrong?

So it doesn't see the obvious (for humans), but doesn't play a wrong move and evaluations are a tiny bit off. I don't think this position is a particularly good example of why anybody should worry about the reliability of XG. Unless you're referring to the obvious bias of the variance reduction that is displayed here (-2.079 is the correct equity value - the rollout results tend to be smaller than that). That is worrisome indeed. I just tested version 2.19. It does a better job, but not a good one. A slight bias seems to remain.
