GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER

The LOS ANGELES OPEN, June 22-24 is going to be the most special event of the backgammon calendar year -- maybe of any year. We still have ROOM FOR ALL.

Why so special? Well, in addition to the regular attractions: lots of backgammon to play and three chances to cash in each of the main ABT events (Championship, Advanced, Novice), fun side events, National Championship West Blitz, Michy lecture, roomy and luxurious hotel, free airport shuttle service . . . there is the Paul Magriel Celebration of Life dinner.

During the Saturday night dinner break, there will be a banquet dinner in honor of the late, great, dearly loved and sorely missed Paul Magriel, with special guests including: Sandy Lubetkin, Lee Genud, David Leibowitz, Perry Gartner, Marty Storer, Kent Goulding, Kit Woolsey, Steven Zolotow, Dan Harrington, Danny Kleinman, Roger Low, Ron & Patti Rubin, Jim Pasko. Most are playing, some are coming just for the dinner.

Other registered circuit players include Karen Davis, Ray Fogerlund, Michael Neagu, Dana Nazarian, Lynn Lusk,Ted Chee, Ken Bame, Leyla Zaloutskaya, Roberto Litzenberger, Mark Antranikian, Nick Maffeo, Odis Chenault, Herb Roman, Blake Fleetwood, Neil Kazaross, Julius High, Jeb Horton. Local powerhouses Steve Sax, Joe Russell, Jon Vietor, Norm Wiggins, Bob Glass, Gus Contos, John Rockwell, Bob Wachtel -- all here and all playing. And no tournament would be any fun without Carter Mattig! Larry Shiller, the Voice of Backgammon, will video stream featured matches. Our sponsor, John Pirner, is bringing some of his gorgeous FTH boards for the merchandise table. (If I forgot anyone, someone else wrote this post.)

Oh, and most special of all, returning for his 79th tournament, our Director Emeritus, Patrick Gibson. Ben Friesen will be here to assist Patrick.
