Probability puzzle

In a single elimination tournament with exactly 8 players of equal ability, before the draw has been made two high rollers each put $1,000 into a side pool. The player who goes furthest in the tournament scoops the pool. If the players are eliminated at the same stage, the pool is split.

What is the probability that the pool is split? And what is this probability is there are exactly 16 players?
