More translation fun

The Danish newspaper Jydske Vestkysten had a little write-up on the World Series of Backgammon Shootout in Cannes in the paper's July 25 edition, next to a huge write-up of the Tour de Doping in France.

Here's the Google translation:

BACKGAMMON. Once a beautiful location. The Danish backgammonverdensmester, Lars Trabolt who is from Brisbane, gained again this week a fantastic result. In the finals of the World Series of Backgammon, he was a nice number three. With a little more luck, he had won the first of 750,000 women, inform the Danish Backgammon Federation. Denmark had four players among the last 16 of World Series of Poker Finals.

Here's a better one:

BACKGAMMON. Again a fine finish. The Danish backgammon world champion Lars Trabolt from Esbjerg achieved another great result this week. In the World Series of Backgammon finals, he finished a fine number three. With a little more luck, he would have won the first prize of 750,000 crowns, the Danish Backgammon Federation reports. Denmark had four players among the last 16 in the World Series of Backgammon finals.

No idea why one of Google's two translations of "World Series of Backgammon" came out as "World Series of Poker." Or why "Esbjerg" became "Brisbane." But the "750,000 women" was because of a misprint (koner for kroner) in the Danish newspaper. 750,000 women, now, that's quite a prize, one I'll bet that even the most imaginative tournament promoters haven't considered!
