Discussing the flow of a typical 64 player ABT event

I will discuss the flow of a typical 64 player ABT event and hopefully result in some suggestions to improve it.

First of all, we assume a normal, but full 64 player bracket where the main is single elim and with a progressive conso and the LC starts Sunday morning. 4 places are payed in the main and 2 in the conso and the LC winner gets the 7th prize given out. I will now discuss how I'd propose to have this event run and progress and note that most are similar. Note that main event rds are 11 pts until money has been won and conso are 9 pts til money has been won.

Saturday rd 1 32W advance while 32L go to the conso. W=winners L=losers

rd 2 16W advance while 16L join the 16 left from conso to make 32 in conso

rd 3 8W advance while 8L join the 16 left from conso to make 24 in conso

rd 4 4W advance and have won a prize and are done for the day, while 4L join the 12 left in conso to make a nice total of 16 in conso who have to play rd 5 prior to bed.

Sunday morning...

4 players remain in the main and since they've been able to stop reasonably early and get a good night's sleep they can start the main SF at 10 AM and that can be a 13 pt match leading to a 15 pt final. Or when one considerd that the LC always drags on, they could start at 11 AM and be clocked.

8 players remain in conso, but need to start at 10 AM since 6 of them won't win a prize and will end up in LC. If there's a full field of 64, the 4L will join the 52 other players to make 56 to start rd 1 of the LC. (If there's 60 or fewer players in the event, then those four losers can feed into rd 2 of the LC) These four 10 AM conso QF matches should be clocked to make sure that the a couple starting LC matches aren't delayed too much when there's a full bracket of 64.

4 winners will then remain in conso and the 56 players in LC (5pt matches) starting at 11 AM and will play down 14 players and be joined in the 3rd rd of LC by the two losers of the conso SF's. This will time reasonably since two 5 pt matches in LC won't take much longer than one 9 pt match in conso. It is important that the LC not drag and that there isn't a big wait for the conso feed ins. Again note that with 60 players or less, the conso QF losers can flow into the 2nd round of LC while with 64 players they need to flow into the 1st round of LC but since they start an hour earlier, delays sb minimal if those 4 matches are clocked. The two conso SF losers will always join 14 remaining players in the LC to make 16.
