Browser issue

For some strange reason, Internet Explorer has stopped changing the color of messages I have read. The settings appear to be unchanged, blue for unread, purple for read, I've cleared cache, rebooted, and still have the problem. Any thoughts folks? It's more annoying than anything else. I'm running IE6.0, this is an old machine running Win2000Professional. As soon as I can afford a wireless card I'll be back on my XP machine.
