Settings for playing Snake (backgame)

Recently I discovered BG variant called Snake.

It's a good practice for backgames and I'm playing it versus gnuBG or myself (I play for both players) with tutor mode on.

Does gnuBG understand these kind of positions and will he play/recommend really the best move?
What settings to use for playing/analyzing? 2ply, 3ply, or maybe even 4ply?
Can I trust (relatively short) rollouts if they are done with 2ply settings for moves?
