Well, this is interesting! I wonder if the explanation is that despite the pip count, we're in some sense not really "ahead in the race." Our opponent may be more likely than we are to run off the anchor and seize the advantage. Therefore 13/11(2) is valuable for its blocking power.

Any other post hoc explanations for the rollout results?
