Speaking of speed

From Wendy Kaplan's interview of Billy Horan in the July-August 1991 issue of Inside Backgammon vol. 1, #4:

(Regarding the final match of the 1990 World Cup)
You beat Tino Lechich in the finals. That seemed to go fairly easily.
Tino plays at a different pace. The three previous mathces were played against opponents who play slowly. Tino likes to play at a quick pace. I also got out of the gate and won the first match, for a refreshing change. As long as Tino was willing to play at a fast pace I felt that I had the advantage. I can play pretty close to my best game while playing quickly.

Thoughts?
