Position Classique, Coup Classique, or Whatever the Correct Name Is

Yesterday in Atlanta, for the third time in two weeks, I saw a Championship-class match decided when the trailer decided to stay for the shot, when he/she had an opportunity to run and escape the backgammon, when the backgammon would cost them the match.

All three times I've seen it recently, the leader rolled the doublet for the backgammon and the match.

I thought it was a straightforward principle that you always stay unless the bg will cost you the match, and then you run.
