What can we learn from backgammon's popularity in Denmark?

In our club we often brainstorm on how we can make backgammon more popular in Belgium. Sometimes the comparison with Denmark comes up. But to be honest, we don't know the facts. I don't believe that that kingdom has an old tradition with backgammon like Mediterranean countries. Nevertheless they seem to have an active club-life, and they produce many world class level players. I am in search of the reasons for this. Not only out of interest in the history of our game, but also because I hope to get some useful tips. For example: how did you get commercial sponsoring for your activities?
