Besides the big five (Rose, Fiesta, Orange, Sugar, BCS-Championship), there are some interesting pairings:

Only Stick Rice cares Bowl (and maybe not even he...): Ohio U. vs. Troy (Dec. 18 -- opening day).

We'll invite anybody Bowl (Dec. 18). Brigham Young vs. Texas @ El Paso. Loser of this game has a sub-0.500 season, and that comes after playing in non-BCS conferences.

Biggest Disappointment Bowl: Boise St. vs. Utah (Dec. 22). Two teams that entered the season thinking they had shots at the National Championship, relegated to an afterthought. Not only don't they get into a big game, they're both stuck playing non-BCS opponents. (Don't know if Tami drinks beer, but if she does she's crying in it about now.)

The Rivalry that should be but isn't Bowl: Missouri vs. Iowa (Dec 28). Two next door neighbor states who surely recruit each others home-grown players but never seem to play each other. Both knocked strong teams out of National Championship contention (MO over Oklahoma and IA over Mich. St.)

Used to be a Famous Bowl: LSU vs. Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl (Jan 7). Probably a long time ago now, but the Cotton Bowl was once in the top four and got to play on New Years Day (when only those four bowls were played -- the last of the season). These are two very good teams. Possibly the best Cotton Bowl contest since its glory days.

Has-been, Wanna-be-again Bowl #1: Florida vs. Penn State (Jan 1). Two 7-5 teams with famous coaches, one because he's really good, the other because he's really old.

Has-been, Wanna-be-again Bowl #2: Notre Dame vs. U. Miami (Dec. 31). Two more 7-5 teams, but this time a not-so-famous coach vs. no coach (U. Miami head coach fired last week).
