What backgammon needs desperately...

...is new players. The Open attendances have remained strong but the number of entries in lower divisions is starting to erode. I think the internet surge is finally dying away.

More than just 'new' players, BG needs young players. 31 year old Stick might have been the youngest player in the Open at Novi. I bet the median age is ~55. (Matt C-G was probably the youngest in the Intermediate, by several years.)

People get sick of comparisons to poker, but look at all the young players there! And if they let under-21's in you'd see a lot more. So it's not the old OtB games that are the problem.

What can we do about this? Or are we satisfied letting the game shrivel up and die at the same time we do?
