First and foremost it's 4am and I am trashed so you should definitely listen to nothing I say from this point forward. To be fair though any night where I can use "fumer la moquette" and "les roberts" and be understood without explanation is a solid night.

1) If you're trying to get better who gives a shit what your ER is. Yes, if you were able to combine all your results and see your what your average ER is now you could compare it and see yourself making progress down the road and most people need that. Truth is keep studying the way you seem to be going at it and you will improve. Ignore that magical ER figure for the time.

2) Buy XG. I'm sorry but the minor monetary investment far outweighs the pluses that XG offers. GNU is free, yes, but if you want to make serious improvement XG is light years ahead of XG. I won't offer up the arguments right now because my glass is almost empty but if ever you trusted some donkey who runs a backgammon web site now would be the time.

3) Reference positions rock.

4) Understanding gammons won/lost is a major concept that most people have difficulties with.

5) A zillion other things I'd be happy to share. All you have to do is ask. HEY LOOK - IT'S HARRY POTTER!
