Why BB units instead of M? (OT)

While watching ESPN I noticed the commentators (including expert commentator Hellmuth) calibrating the time remaining in terms of Big Blinds -- i.e. divide a player's stack by the size of the big blind. Harrington-Robertie use 'M' (which they credit to Magriel) -- stack divided by the sum of the big blind, the small blind, and the product of the the ante and the number of players at the table.

M (under the assumption the blinds and antes won't increase soon and that the number of players at the table remains constant) tells you how many hands you can muck consecutively before your stack is gone.

BB units completely ignore ante's so even if someone were to say "oh, there's just a factor of N involved" they would be all wet.
