Again I didn't state something well. I said "suppose you suspect a relationship...". What I meant was "suppose you have a SPECIFIC relationship in mind..."

More to the point, suppose you have a function Q(x) which you think fits the data, within a proportionality constant (call it 'A'). So you want to adjust A so that A*Q(x) best fits the data.

How do you weight the data?
