You're right to be pissed/annoyed if you put all that effort into trying to get paid and weren't. As always I'd like to hear the other half of the story but from what you've posted here it seems like Howard, if he was caught at the elevator by George, should have brought up the fact that you had been trying to get your money and offered, if George was leaving for whatever reason, to give you your cut.

I don't know who George Gruenbaum though when Chiva gets on instant messenger or Falafelfish gets on Gridgammon I'll make sure both of them see this thread with hopes one of them knows George and can help you get ahold of him. I would give him the benefit of the doubt for the moment, hard to imagine someone would purposely skirt off with your €268. Not replying to an email you sent isn't enough to condemn him for life yet. Good luck, let us know if you hear something before we do.
