You didn't mention the checkers. Have you picked them? I know when Taki builds a board he starts with the checkers and builds around them (both in the tolerance of the fit and surface colors).

An attractive playing surface combined with an attractive set of checkers can look hideous if they don't match. (Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.)

As I mentioned in another thread, the MC white+black checkers on white+black points don't show up well (at least on low-res). Given that BG is moving more towards online video matches (but hopefully higher resolution) and you certainly want to be someone who makes the finals :), I think that should also be a consideration if you're putting serious money into a high quality board (which Bob Z certainly makes).
