In Response To: ruling regarding touching checkers (Stick)

In over 25 years of directing tournaments I can't recall one instance in which a player has objected to the opponent moving any checkers up or down a point to facilitate easier counting. Nor have I been called in when checkers have been moved to another point. It has either never happened, or more likely, both players were in agreement with the moves.

However, I would object to a player moving any checkers to another point. Up and down is OK, but not left or right.

On the issue of using dice to keep count, if the other player doesn't object, I don't mind. If they do object, then there's other ways of remembering one count while you do another. I have listed some in the Keeping Count section here: www.backgammon-biba.co.uk/PipCount.htm
