I can't agree with your reasoning Art. Just become some of the ABT leaders have resisted in the past doesn't mean they are right. Over time, I think more and more people are agreeing that we need good, firm, complete rules and guidelines. If the above thread proves anything, it proves to me that we don't even agree on what the rules should be or what they are, and it also proves this creates complications, conflicts, hard feelings, and takes away from the fairness and enjoyment of the game.
Once we have a reasonable set of guidelines, even though they will be far from perfect, far from complete, and will contain many rules that many won't totally agree with (we will never please everyone), I think even the strongest critics will agree that this is better than ambiguity and uncertainty.
EVEN IF there are tournament directors that continue to resist, if enough players and Federations around the world adopt a standards set of rules and guidelines, I would think the ABT would follow if for no other reason than continuity.
But I ask you, and all other critics, to reserve judgment until you see the end results. In the meantime, I find all arguments AGAINST having clear rules very difficult to accept.
