In Response To: ruling regarding touching checkers (Bob Koca)

The "basic idea" of baseball is no more difficult to understand than the other sports mentioned. How hard is it to organize a kindergarten kickball game - you've got the basic idea. (I know dodgeball is now politically incorrect, but I think the kids still play kickball.)

Adding the infield fly rule, balks, striking out yet being safe, ... takes a bit more time, but all sports and their rules have similar complexities. Is an understanding of offside in soccer (or hockeyball) considered "basic"? The law on offside is concise and has pictures and examples, yet at all but the highest levels of the game is frequently misunderstood and poorly enforced.
