Ruling...

It is useful to distinguish between the TD's actions and the players' actions even though one of the players is also the TD. There are two things that when wrong here:
1. It is TD's job to properly inform the players when they are to play to a shorter than standard match length. It sounds like the TD did not do that in this case. (This is a TD error, not an error by either of the players.)
2. The rules require both players to keep a written record of the match score (which includes the match length). Player B chose not to do that, which is fine -- as long as there is no problem. But here we have a problem. As a general principle, rulings should tend to favor the player who follows proper procedure over a player who does not follow proper procedure.
While its true that Player B failed to keep a written score, would that have made any difference? Perhaps not, since common practice is to confirm the score after each game but not necessarily the match length. And it doesn't seem fair to penalize B for an error that is primarily TD's fault.
Here's my ruling: The confusion over match length was not the error of either player, so we should try to find a solution that is as fair as possible to both players.
"The match progresses, and gets to a score of 3 to 2, with Player B trailing. At some point, Player B doubles, and Player A takes. Player A wins the game, and reaches to shake hands."
From Player A's perspective, a fair ruling is "A wins the match". From B's perspective, a fair ruling is "the score is 5-2 to 7 for A".
So I say split the difference and make the score 6-2 to 7 (Crawford).
