Great question! One of Kit Woolsey's maxims is:
When ahead in the race, race.
When behind in the race, don't race.This sounds obvious, but one thing to keep in mind is that it is usually not wise to do a little of both. If you run with one back checker you are pretty well committed to getting the other one out of there as quickly as possible. If you decide not to run, then try to make an advanced anchor.
