I agree with everyone here that the director must get clear acknowledgement from the players when changing the conditions of the contest. Just because someone says something nearby does not mean the other person heard it.

One question I have that I haven't seen covered anywhere: when the match length was changed from 7 to 5, was that change also reflected on the drawsheet? In other words, was the posted match length 7 or 5 when the dispute occurred?
